Education
Andreas Jankowitsch was born in Vienna. He learnt to play the piano at an early age and was soprano soloist in the Vienna Boys Choir. He studied organ, composition and singing at the Vienna University of Music with Walter Berry, Robert Holl and Franz Lukasovsky.
Before completion of his studies he was engaged at the Salzburg Regional Theatre and worked with Harry Kupfer and Stephane Deneve.
Career
Since then he has been singing at renowned theatres
in Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy and Austria, appearing in such roles
as Leporello, Don Giovanni, Papageno, Figaro, Conte Almaviva, Guglielmo, Kaspar,
the Villains in "The Tales of Hoffmann", Sharpless, Scarpia and
Jochanaan. Andreas Jankowitsch places importance on performing modern music regularly.
In this genre he has given virtuoso performances in mono-operas such as Grigori Frid´s
"Letters of van Gogh", Wolfram Wagner´s "Endlich Schluß"
and Tsippi Fleischer´s "Cain and Abel". The Viennese baritone
is also in demand as a concert singer. He has performed in Joseph Haydn´s
oratorios, Bach´s passions and Mozart´s Requiem, as well as in works by
Brahms and Verdi in the Vienna Musikverein and Concert House of Vienna,
in Carnegie Hall and Boston Symphony Hall. In his relatively short
career he has already worked with such stage directors as Harry Kupfer, Hans Neuenfels,
Karoline Gruber, Tobias Moretti, Thorsten Fischer and Keith Warner and conductors
such as Stephane Deneve, Bertrand de Billy, Ulf Schirmer, Franz Welser-Möst,
Dennis Russell-Davies and Peter Keuschnig.
